Sorry, a connection error occurred

Symptoms:
Login does not succeed – The following message appears:

"Sorry, a connection error occurred. Please check the connection to the Internet. If the problem persists, click Refresh on your browser toolbar to re-login into the MI-Live event."

Cause of the Problem:
The application has trouble reaching our servers, usually bad proxy settings, firewall program, or bad connection

Solution:

  • Check connection to the Internet:
    Try to reach a different site using your browser. In the address bar of your browser please type the following address: WWW.IBM.COM, and press enter. Is the site coming up?
    if it does not, you have a bad connection, only disconnecting and reconnecting  MIGHT help.

    Please Note: If you reached the session through a panel company website, closing your browser might result in you not being able to reach the session again. If you wish to continue your participation in the session, please copy the URL line before closing your browser and then reopen it and paste the link to the new browser. The link to the session may also be found in your browser's history.

  • Restart the login flow:
    If you received an email invitation to take part in the session, click on the URL from the invitation. If you reached the session link through a panel website, paste the link you copied in the previous step to the URL line of a new browser and then press Enter.

  • Check proxy settings:
    • For Microsoft Internet Explorer:

      • For Dial Up Connection:
        To check your proxy settings to ensure they are not the cause of the problem, click on the TOOLS button in your browsers menu bar , in the tools menu, click on INTERNET OPTIONS, now click on the CONNECTIONS tab, then click on SETTINGS and remove the check from the USE A PROXY SERVER and USE AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION SCRIPT boxes. Now close and reopen your browser and restart the login process.

        Please Note: If you reached the session through a panel company website, closing your browser might result in you not being able to reach the session again. If you wish to continue your participation in the session, please copy the URL line before closing your browser and then reopen it and paste the link to the new browser. The link to the session may also be found in your browser's history.

        NOTE – the AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION SCRIPT will not be lost, it is saved, and rechecking the box will restore the previous settings.

      • For a LAN connection:
        To check your proxy settings to ensure they are not the cause of the problem, click on the TOOLS button in your browsers menu bar , in the tools menu, click on INTERNET OPTIONS, now click on the CONNECTIONS tab, then click on LAN SETTINGS, check if the USE A PROXY SERVER or USE AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION SCRIPT boxes are checked.

        IMPORTANT - IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE SURVEY FROM WORK - DO NOT DISABLE THE PROXY, YOU NEED TO CONSULT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR FIRST.

    • For AOL or MSN browsers:
      • For Dial Up Connection:
